It is often said that “it is a man’s world”, but women are 51% of the population. 9 to 5: The Musical is a light-hearted transition to the workplace equality women deserve. The women bring color and life to the grey and brown world that Hart has enforced before Violet takes control. The pot dreams are a David Bowie-inspired interpretation of each of the women's fantasy. Judy is a femme fatale, Doralee is a cowgirl, and Violet wants to be in the woods with the animals. Especially in the fantasies but also throughout the play, the women are sexy but not sexualized, seen through a woman’s and not a man’s gaze.
